Beginning of the Great Depression
Before the Great Depression, people would buy things they didn’t need to buy, but could make at home. For example, instead of making polishing oil, they would buy oil. This proves that many lived differently before the stock market crashed on “Black Thursday”. Many parents and children didn't worry about replacing old items. They bought new ones instead. In this time period, everyone had more money to spend.
The day the stock market crashed is often known as Black Thursday. Before the stock market crashed, stock market prices were very high starting in the year 1925. The prices stayed this way until "Black Tuesday," when prices suddenly dropped. Black Tuesday was the day stock market prices began dropping drastically. On Black Thursday, the market crashed, and had to close down. Black Thursday occurred on October 29, 1929. When the stock market crashed, everyone rushed to banks to get their money. People brought their money to the bank with guarantees that they would get their money back, but when they needed their money and they went to go get it, it had vanished.
