Process Paper
How did we choose our topic?
Last year in seventh grade, we discussed briefly about the Great Depression. During these discussions, we both couldn’t help but feel perplexed about the depression. How did it start, how did the people cope with these drastic changes, how did they escape the wrath of the economic challenges they faced? We wanted to learn more about the bank rushes, and the war that eventually brought the people out of the Great Depression.
How did we do our research?
First, we went to our school library to find books to read about our topic. We quickly took notes on everything we thought was important, and significant. After taking notes, we started to watch videos about the Great Depression. To conclude our research, we went to a museum with articles, and newspapers from the Great Depression.
How did we choose our category?
We wanted a category that would best display our topic’s ideas and importance. We looked through all the categories and decided that creating our own website was the most creative and best way to present our project.
How does our topic relate to the theme?
This year’s National History Day theme is revolution, reaction, and reform in history. Our topic relates to the reaction and reforms of the American people during the Great Depression of the 1930s. The Great Depression, a time of extremely low employment rates and great suffering, was a point in U.S. history where many American lives were greatly affected. The reaction of the American citizens, caused by this devastating time period, forced the government to create reforms to bring America out of this time of high unemployment rates and low business activity.
